Mirabilis - Medieval Music
Mirabilis play interpretations of secular and sacred music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance with song, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, shawms, bombarde and timbals. Their popular tunes, love songs, fanfares and laments mirror the life of the minstrels and that of their audience between 1200 and 1550. Mirabilis cares about the historical accuracy as much as about tangibility and comprehensibility.
Mirabilis – that's four musicians coming from different backgrounds having found each other in the environment surrounding the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. The band combines their knowledge about music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance with their wide expertise in folkloristic music in order to develop an authentic picture of a minstrel's ensemble.
Mirabilis often work in cooperation with dance masters and dance ensembles. This enables them to offer programmes which include historic dances (i.e. for a wedding) or dance performances (i.e. for a Middle Ages Spectacle).
